About the Artist
RASHMI REKHA
"Painting is my way to experiencing the liberation of thoughts and feelings and ultimately my soul. It takes me to that wonderful space where I can be with my instinct and inner self"

``Art is the fire which melts the frozen sea within me``
Painting has been my passion since the very early age which I persuaded throughout my life even though I studied Physics and had a professional standing in Information technology and business management.
My paintings depict my investigation and interpretation of the social landscape of the world around me. With influences as diverse as Franz Kafka and David Chalmers new insights are derived from both mundane and transcendent meanings. Each of these paintings tell story through a combination of familiar human forms and satirical elements. I draw inspiration from the social issues, novels and movies. I use my own constructed images as a vehicle for questioning the ideas about the semantics of collaboration, social pressure, game of financial market, burden of awareness and wisdom, nature of modern families and relationships. I use the expressive qualities of the human face and gesture and use these elements to create a visual story that sparks the curiosity and imagination of viewers of all ages.
My art is bold and colorful yet easily accessible. I use simple forms to depict the human figures and a wealth of color to express the depth of my theme and create a moving narrative. My process of painting is expressive and rather visceral. I sketch my ideas with charcoal pencil anywhere, anytime as the thoughts come. On the canvas I draw the composition directly with the brush after I have prepared my canvas with basic layers. And then layers of paint partially cover sketches that are re-worked and re-layered and sometimes re-arranged. Before I start a very large figurative painting, I like to paint on a small canvas to develop my thoughts on the composition and color scheme.
I paint in oil, acrylic, mixed media with wax and water colors. I enjoy exploring different media.
I started this year with a group show “Emotions and Moods” at the Don-Gamble Community Center in Ottawa. One of my paintings was selected in September for inclusion in the 3rd Annual Women Artists - 15th Quarterly Art Competition Online Jury`d Art Exhibition.
My paintings are at ROTHWELL GALLERY, 1162 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa, ON K1J8V
My paintings are at private businesses in Ottawa, and with several art collectors in US and Canada. An international manufacturing company in Ottawa, ProSoya Inc. has their whole atrium and the walls of offices dedicated to my paintings. They currently have 15 of my paintings.
